UN SECRETARY-GENERAL Antonio Guterres, has strongly condemned an incident that led to the killing of two Indonesian peacekeepers of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on March 30, 2026 when an explosion of unknown origin destroyed their vehicle near Bani Hayyan, south Lebanon. A third peacekeeper was severely injured, and a fourth was also hurt.
The Secretary-General expresses his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the peacekeepers who died, and to the Republic of Indonesia. He wishes a full and fast recovery to the injured peacekeepers, according to the statement from his office.
