On the occasion of Earth Day, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Turkmenistan conducted an interactive educational session for 2nd grade students of the A.S. Pushkin Turkmen-Russian Secondary General Education School. The session was organized within the framework of the regional initiative “Climate Education for Sustainable Development Goals and Climate Action (Climate Box),” funded by the Russian Federation Trust Fund.
During the session, UNDP experts used the Climate Box to explain basic concepts of climate change in an accessible and engaging way tailored to the age of the children. Through storytelling, visual materials, and interactive exercises, the students learned how climate change affects the planet and why it is important to care for the environment.
Key topics included responsible use of water and energy, waste reduction, recycling practices, and the importance of trees in protecting the environment. The children also discussed simple actions they can take at home and in school to contribute to environmental protection.
At the end of the session, the Climate Box toolkit was officially handed over to the class to support continued learning and encourage further environmental education activities.

The “Climate Box” is a regional UNDP project aimed at promoting climate education in countries across Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia. The interactive educational toolkit engages children and youth in learning about climate change and motivates them to engage in climate action. Originally developed as a national project, it has grown into an international platform, available in multiple languages and adapted to local educational contexts.
The implementation of the regional project in Turkmenistan was made possible with the support of the Government of Turkmenistan and partners, including the Russian Federation Trust Fund, which supports the development of climate education initiatives.
