According to his own words, pop star Howard Carpendale is disappointed by a comment from Oliver Welke in the “today show” and demands an apology. “I’m a little disappointed. I never thought you had these tendencies to turn on people who can’t defend themselves,” Carpendale said in a video on Instagram.
The 80-year-old is referring to a comment Welke made in the broadcast on April 24th: “A hundred legs, everything stinks of urine. What is that? The front row at Carpendale,” Carpendale recited the reason for his displeasure. At that time, the ZDF satire show was about robots and the question of whether they could tell jokes. With these words, Welke suggested a joke to a care robot that was “age-appropriate.”
“Do you have any idea what you’re talking about?”
Carpendale responded: “Say, are you crazy? Have you been to one of my concerts? Do you even have any idea what you’re talking about?” He also noted that the joke was ancient. There are “fine people” at his concerts. “Come over, I’ll teach you a little bit about what empathy means, okay?” Carpendale addressed Welke. “And I’m pursuing this, I promise you, because until you say, ‘I’m really sorry,’ there’s nothing to discuss between the two of us.”
Shortly after his 80th birthday in January, the pop star reached number one in the Official German Album Charts for the first time in his 60-year stage career, as GfK Entertainment announced. His new album “Zeitlos”, which contains new recordings of his biggest hits as well as new songs, also marks his tenth top 5 record.
