The head of Iranian diplomacy, Abbas Araqchi, delivered today in Islamabad to the head of the Pakistani army Tehran’s responses to the United States’ proposals to end the war, Iranian state television reported.
The document aims to consolidate the current ceasefire, although there is still no prospect of a direct meeting with the North American delegation, which is also in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, for meetings with local authorities.
Iranian authorities have already stated that they have no intention of meeting today with US representatives, Middle East advisor Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law.
Iranian television limited itself to mentioning that the note delivered by Araqchi to General Asim Munir “is exhaustive and addresses all of Tehran’s concerns”without providing further details, according to the Spanish agency Europa Press (EP).
Despite the uncertainty, today’s meeting highlights the importance of Pakistani mediation, with Araqchi meeting with the top of Pakistan’s security apparatus.
The army chief was accompanied by national security advisor Asim Malik and interior minister Mohsin Naqvi.
The Iranian delegation also included the deputy minister of Foreign Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, the ambassador to Islamabd, Reza Amiri-Moghaddam, and the ministry’s spokesman, Esmail Baghaei.
The delivery of the document suggests that Iran decided to opt for a model of indirect talks after the failure of the meeting on April 11 and 12, which ended without an agreement after more than 20 hours of negotiations.
