An LGBTQ TV channel is launching in Hungary: Szivárvány TV (Rainbow TV) is coming, Magyar Nemzet reported. According to the publication, the owner of the linear and online TV channel, which focuses on LGBTQ issues, has already submitted the relevant documents to the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH).
As Hungary Today previously reported, just over a week and a half after the elections, the Court of Justice of the European Union issued a ruling against Hungary’s child protection regulations. Based on the Luxembourg-based court’s decision,
the contested law violates EU law on several counts, particularly provisions concerning fundamental rights and the functioning of the internal market.
According to the court, the dissemination of gender propaganda in the media and in advertisements cannot be restricted, and the registration of sex offenders is also contrary to EU law.
The European Commission launched the proceedings back in 2021, arguing that Hungarian legislation violates EU obligations in several areas. According to the Commission’s position, the law not only contradicts the provisions of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, but also affects the free movement of services and data protection rules.
Earlier on Kossuth Radio, outgoing Prime Minister Viktor Orbán spoke about the immense pressure Hungary is facing from the international gender network.
The Hungarian government’s position is that our children come first, and everyone must adapt to this; a clear legal framework must be established in this regard,”
he pointed out.
The channel, currently in the planning stages, would broadcast content 24 hours a day, combining the experience of traditional television with the freedom of modern, anywhere-accessible online streaming.
They are currently awaiting the NMHH to grant them the opportunity to provide media services in accordance with EU legislation.
