Arlinda Zekaj’s statement to the police shortly before the murder: “Does Jetoni have to kill me for you to arrest him?”

Arlinda Zekaj, the woman who was allegedly killed by her brother-in-law in Vitomirica in Peja on 25.10.2026, a few hours before her murder, had presented a case of domestic violence at the Police Station in Peja.
On the day she was killed, Arlinda Zekaj had denounced her husband for domestic violence.
KALLXO.com has secured the statement of the deceased at the Police Station in Peja.
Zekaj told the police how she was threatened with her life by her husband Jeton Syla.
“I, with my particulars above, having been read my rights set forth by law, want to declare: That on 25/10/2026, sometime around 17:58, after I came out of the bathroom and waited for the washing machine to finish the clothes of the Jeton members and after the washing machine finished, I put my clothes in to be cleaned. I released the washing machine and went in the kitchen to eat bread,” said the deceased.
The deceased further stated that at that moment her husband had started shouting and threatening her with the words: “I will break you, I will strangle you, why are you begging in my house? You don’t dare to act like this anymore, who are you?”
The victim also said that her husband took her clothes and threw them in the backyard.
She felt scared by these threats and immediately notified the Police.
The deceased, in her statement to the Police, had also expressed displeasure with the law enforcement agencies, for not taking action on their part.
“Yes, I want to ask the Police: “Should Jetoni kill me so that you, the Police, then arrest the schizophrenic?” – the victim stated to the Police on the day he was killed.
Asked by the police officials if she wants to go to the shelter after giving the statement, the victim said that she does not want to leave her house.
“No, I don’t agree to go to the shelter. I want to go to my house,” said the deceased.
Although the victim said that she wants to go home where her husband’s family members were also present, she said that she does not feel safe enough but that she does not give up her son and her property.
“I don’t feel safe enough, but I don’t give up my son and my property. The state had an obligation and has to remove the usurpers from my house,” the deceased declared.
The Kosovo Police has announced the search for Albert Sylaj, as a suspect for the murder of Arlinda Zekaj, last night in Vitomirica, Peja.
Sylaj is Arlinda Zekaj’s brother-in-law.
The murder of Arlinda Zekaj has evoked many reactions. The president of the country, Justina Shiroka-Pula, asked to investigate the case in detail, while the speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, also asked for an investigation.
Arlinda Zekaj was allegedly killed last night, on 25.10.2026, in the village of Vitomirica in Peja by her brother-in-law. In a reaction, the Kosovo Police indicated that the victim had reported a case of domestic violence around 19:00.
According to law enforcement, her husband was detained for 48 hours, while the police stated that the victim was sent to her home in the village of Vitomirica of her own free will.
Only a few hours later, the police were notified of the death of Arlinda Zekaj.
“Today, at around 19:00, the Police Station in Pejë was notified of a case of domestic violence, which occurred in the village of Vitomiricë, in Pejë. The victim was accompanied to the police station, where he was interviewed” – says the reaction of the Kosovo Police.

However, Arlinda Zekajt’s lawyer, Adelina Hoxha, disputed the police claims. She said that the return of the victim to her home was against the will of the deceased.
“I don’t know if the police should be more careful when giving statements, should they definitely explain to their officials!!!! It was not the will of the victim!!! Everything will be handed over to the Chief State Prosecutor’s Office. At least check the victim’s statement to the police half an hour before he killed me… and many more” – declared the lawyer Adelina Hoxha.
Arlinda Zekaj is alleged to have delivered a letter three days before her murder to the Basic Prosecutor’s Office of Peja.
In the letter that is already circulating on social networks, Zekaj addressed the chief prosecutor of Peja, Lumturije Vuçetaj, urgently asking her to take measures against the officials who, according to her, had seriously failed to fulfill their duties.
“I urgently demand action against all the officials who have seriously failed to fulfill their duties, passing the responsibilities to each other, thus allowing the consequences and risk to my life to continue. I demand the immediate execution of the court order and the opening of investigations against all the officials involved, starting with the QPS (Center for Social Work).” – Zekaj wrote in a letter on 22.10.2026.
