Wesley High School (WHS) is preparing to mark a major milestone this October as the Dominica school celebrates a century of educating and empowering young women.
Founded on October 16, 1926, Wesley High School has been part of Dominica’s education system for 100 years, with generations of its students going on to contribute in fields including education, business, the professions, public service, the arts and other areas of national life.
A press release from the school said that its Centennial celebrations are being held under the theme, “A Century Rooted in Faith, Growing in Excellence, and Serving with Love.”
According to the school, the theme reflects the principles on which Wesley High School was established and its continued focus on academic achievement, character development, service, and the overall development of young women.

Centennial Programme
The anniversary activities begin on Monday, October 12, with Media Monday. Past and current students and staff will share memories of their time at WHS through various media outlets, while the school will also seek appearances on radio programmes and live shows.
On Tuesday, October 13, a Cardio Jam will be held at 4:30 PM at the main school compound.
Current students will take part in a Tea Party and Empowerment Session on Thursday, October 15, beginning at 10:00 AM.
Friday, October 16, marks the school’s official 100th anniversary and will feature a Founder’s Day Service and Parade from 9:00 AM. Past students are encouraged to attend wearing their former school uniforms, anniversary shirts or the school’s yellow and blue colours.
The week will conclude on Saturday, October 17, with a Banquet and Awards Night beginning at 6:00 PM at InterContinental Cabrits Resort & Spa. Tickets are priced at $275.
The school is also asking alumnae to contribute towards the refurbishment of its Science laboratory, with a suggested donation of $100 to $1—representing $1 for every year of the school’s existence.
A special commemorative magazine will also be available for purchase during the anniversary week at a cost of $65.
Looking Back, Moving Forward
Wesley High School said the Centennial is intended not only to celebrate the achievements of the past 100 years but also to renew its commitment to the future.
The school is inviting alumni, former students and teachers, parents, partners, supporters and members of the wider Dominican community to join in marking the milestone.
As Wesley High School moves into its second century, the institution is celebrating its history while looking ahead to the next chapter.
