For its 2027 budget, the National Bank of Panama (BNP) will allocate 95.4% of its investment portfolio to loan granting.
According to the figures presented by the general manager of BNP, Javier Carrizo Ezquivel, the breakdown of the budget reflects a marked priority towards credit with loan concessions with $1,703.6 million, followed by works and projects ($53.9 million) and branch equipment ($28.7 million).
The BNP reported that within the loan concessions, commercial credit will be the main item, with $1,393.8 million (81.8%), aimed at promoting business activity and national commerce.
The agricultural credit will receive $209.8 million (12.3%), as support for the development of the agricultural sector, considered strategic for food security and the rural economy.
For its part, the housing loan will have $100 million (5.9%), focused on housing solutions and the well-being of Panamanian families.
The institutional strategy will be focused on loan placements aimed mainly at the private sector, with the objective of promoting production and economic development of the various sectors.
The BNP supported a budget of $2,532.6 million for the fiscal year 2027 before the National Assembly.
As of August 31, 2026, the National Bank reported total assets of $13,114.8 million, a loan portfolio of $7,130.1 million, deposits of $9,486.1 million, obligations of $1,641.1 million, other liabilities of $292.2 million and a capital fund of $1,662.4 million. The accumulated profit as of that date amounts to $159.9 million.
“These results reflect the solidity of the bank’s management and motivate us to continue promoting initiatives that strengthen the economic and social development of the country,” Carrizo Esquivel highlighted during his speech.
