PARAMARIBO — “It is not over. I have not stopped. Let me make that clear. For me, music is on the back burner for a while, because I have other commitments. The intention is that I will start writing again after I have finished my education.” This is what Hindi pop and fusion singer Nisha Madaran says the True Time. Nowadays she mainly spends time on her law studies and in this context is doing an internship within the legal profession. She wants to graduate in December, after which she can establish herself as a lawyer.
Madaran’s interest in the legal profession arose during her teenage years. At secondary school she experienced a situation in which, according to her, someone’s rights were not treated fairly. “I felt helpless and thought: ‘when I grow up, I want to do something like that’.”

At Imeao, Madaran learned the trade and her interest grew further. She got good grades and eventually decided to choose the legal profession. The choice of the profession also has to do with her wish to work independently and to continue to make time for music.
Despite the pressure of her studies, she makes time to perform, for example at concerts, Bollywood shows and graduation ceremonies. She is also active on social media. She regularly posts videos, for example about cooking, but she also provides vlogs. Every now and then she performs a cover of a Bollywood song. “My main goal remains to touch hearts with music.”
Fusions
The singer is positive about the current music world. The many collaborations between artists and different cultures particularly appeal to her. “I see a lot fusioncollaboration and cultures coming together. I am proud of that and happy because that is primarily what I do. It’s nice to see that. I hear more and more beautiful music from my fellow artists.”
The singer says she is still regularly recognized and is also asked to take a photo together. “People also recognize me from my TikTokvideos. This way I maintain the relationship with my fans.”
Although Madaran is less busy with music at the moment, there are plans. “There are some nice things coming in the field of music. It won’t be that long before ‘it’ comes out,” she sounds mysteriously without revealing much more.
The singer scored a hit in the past with ‘Tu Hi Mera Dil’ (‘You Are My Heart’). ‘Mere Soniyaa’ and ‘Baby Tere Liy’, a collaboration with Jackson Blai, were also successes. The numbers were up YouTube viewed more than one million times. Her fame grew further through her collaboration with Bryan B. Together they were number one on the national Top 40 Suriname for five weeks in 2015 with ‘Pyar Hamara’.
