PARAMARIBO — During inspection work by the Paramaribo Regional Assistance Team (RBTP) in Pontbuiten, 37-year-old VT was arrested on suspicion of violating the Firearms Act. He had an illegal handgun with him, the Suriname Police Corps (KPS) reports on its website.
During the RBTP action, the troops noticed that the 34-year-old driver RB was behaving suspiciously when checking the vehicle at the intersection of Johannes Pont and Geertruidaweg. Together with the two other occupants, he was ordered to get out of the car. VT turned out to have a handgun with an accompanying cartridge holder containing two 9mm cartridges in his shoulder bag.
Because the weapon was not covered, the man was taken to Latour police station. After coordination with the Public Prosecution Service, VT was taken into custody. The firearm and ammunition were seized by the police.
