Towards the lighta proposal around gathering, beauty and listening, yesterday gave the start to the 2026-2027 season of the Andorra National Classical Orchestra Foundation (FONCA). Under the direction of Josep Caballé Domenech, the concert had the participation of the soprano Núria Rial, the baritone Josep Ramon Olivé and the Barcelona Madrigal Choirwhich celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.
The program began its journey with some of the most representative pieces of the Catalan choral heritage, such as Or you allby Pau Casals; sailor loveof Manuel Oltra; The sardana of Aprilof Lluís Maria Milleti Canigó Mountainswith arrangement of Joan Manén. Later, the concert went into the universe of Gabriel Faure with the Canticle of Jean Racineas a prelude to his famous Requiem. Both works share an intimate spirituality far removed from drama.
the harpist Esther Pinyol he emphasized the luminous nature of the work and pointed out that the Requiem de Fauré “has a lot of light, a lot of hope”. He also emphasized the sonority of the formation, with “a lot of violas”, and the role of the harp, which, as he explained, has a special role in this piece.
Pinyol also explained that he was particularly excited to participate in the concert, since it was “the first time” he collaborated with the ONCA in the starting shot of a season. Regarding the fact that the orchestra now has a fixed season, he defended the continuity of the initiative and remarked that the country’s musicians “deserve it” and that the ONCA “it must have its space and its stable concert season”.
