SAN MARINO – The signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union represents a historic step for San Marino, but for RETE it is not a point of arrival. The movement underlines the need to quickly initiate the reforms and interventions necessary to implement the agreement, criticizing the Government’s delays in preparing the country for the expected changes.
RETE recalls having already supported in 2013, on the occasion of the referendum on EU membership, the need for a specific agreement that would allow San Marino to move closer to Europe without giving up its own peculiarities.
According to the movement, in the three years that have passed since the conclusion of the negotiations, the executive should have prepared a concrete plan to accompany the Republic in the new phase. “After all this time, we are still here wondering what the plans, reforms and interventions are necessary to implement the Agreement: it is serious”, states RETE.
The movement therefore invites us to avoid triumphalism linked to the signature and to focus on the measures necessary to make the agreement operational. “The real work begins now and there is not a minute to waste,” the note concludes.
