PARAMARIBO — June 2028 is mentioned as the planned deadline for pumping the first offshore oil in the Granmorgu project in block 58. With the arrival of the first materials in Suriname, TotalEnergies is well on track to meet this deadline. This became clear on Saturday at a special event that was put together for this moment.
The press was the first to receive a tour to see exactly what material has arrived and what its functionality is. The materials consist of the components needed to set up oil wells in the sea. “This material will most likely be at the bottom of the ocean for 40 years or more, so it is the last time to experience this moment,” the significance of the moment was described by TotalEnergies officials on Saturday.

First goes the wellhead at the location of a well. Then the tubing head which the wellhead connects to the mechanism that pumps the oil upwards, the so-called ‘Christmas tree’. This mechanism regulates and monitors the flow of hydrocarbons and pumped fluid between the reservoir and the floating production platform.
The material was unloaded on Thursday at the Kuldpisingh Port Facility in Tout Lui Faut. A total of 32 wells will be drilled for the Granmorgu project. The installation of a ‘Christmas tree’ takes approximately seventy days. When this equipment is set up at sea, approximately a thousand people will be needed to realize this.
