Miami/More than a quarter century has passed since the day America was shaken to its foundations. Painful evidence of the resentment and hatred that governments and people feel towards the country, which, with defects, errors and numerous successes, has achieved heights that its own enemies would like to reach.
September 11, 2001 will remain in the collective memory of this nation with similar intensity as December 7, 1941, Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor. These are dates that no one can ignore, because they were events that marked a before and after for this country and the rest of the world. What happens here doesn’t stay: it goes around the planet in seconds.

I don’t think any of us suspected that it was a terrorist act, a conviction that caught us when the second aircraft hit the other tower. But the knowledge that danger is a constant, that predators are lurking, waiting for the opportunity to attack causing the greatest possible damage, is a reality that continues to burden us.
