(KPL) Officials from Lao People’s Democratic Republic and Socialist Republic of Vietnam held a bilateral meeting on April 22 to advance cooperation on a joint mapping project.
The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s Office of Laos and was co-chaired by Vikeo Bouphavanh, Deputy Minister and Deputy Head of the PMO, and Nguyen Thi Phuong Hoa, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam. Senior officials and technical experts from mapping agencies of both countries also attended.
During the meeting, both sides agreed on the preparation and proposal of a project titled “Improvement of the National Vertical Control Network of Laos.”
The project will be funded through assistance from the Vietnamese government and is part of ongoing cooperation between national mapping authorities of the two countries.
Officials said the initiative builds on a series of agreements and memorandums of understanding signed between 2018 and 2025.
Both sides endorsed the project framework and agreed to proceed with submission for final approval.
If approved, implementation is expected to begin by late 2026, further strengthening technical cooperation and supporting national development planning in Laos.
