PARAMARIBO — Ronald Snijders is working on a special anniversary concert to celebrate his musical oeuvre, which has been built up for fifty years. The flautist, composer and ethnomusicologist wants to once again bring his best-known compositions from an extensive music catalog into the spotlight next year. “My LP box ‘Penta’, released in London, has inspired me to give a fiftieth anniversary concert next year of my enormous album oeuvre, which started on July 7, 1977 with the LP ‘Natural Sources’,” Snijders says enthusiastically. the True Time.
The idea for the concert arose after he heard that this year the world will be commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of ‘Songs in the Key of Life’ by the American singer and songwriter Stevie Wonder, including a tour. That gave him the idea to also present his own musical legacy in concert form. “It is an idea to perform the best-known songs from my records in concert form and to bring them to attention in a different way… and ideas happen to me,” says Snijders with a smile.

Extensive oeuvre
He does not yet know exactly what the anniversary concert will look like. What is clear to him is that he wants to draw from his extensive oeuvre. Over the course of his career, Snijders has released approximately sixty albums, LPs, CDs, singles and cassettes. The majority were published independently. Special releases include ‘Penta’, which was released in London, and ‘Nelson & Djosa Sessions’.
In the front room of his home, Snijders has compiled an overview of his extensive discography. Among the approximately sixty sound carriers are four books that have been published by him over the years. The journey through his oeuvre begins with ‘Natural Sources’, the LP with which he marked his musical career as a record maker on July 7, 1977.
Snijders celebrated his 75th birthday in April with a Bigi Yariconcert in the Bastion in New Amsterdam, Commewijne. With an anniversary concert in 2027, the versatile artist wants to add the next milestone to his special musical career.
