Two Jaish terrorists killed, one suspect held in Jammu’s Udhampur

Two Pakistani Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists were killed and a suspect was detained in an anti-terror operation in Jammu division’s Udhampur district on Thursday (September 17, 2026).

The Jammu & Kashmir police identified the two dead terrorists as Saddam and Mustafa. ”An AK assault rifle (with four magazines), M4 carbine (with three magazines), a Glock pistol (with two magazines), and four grenades have been recovered from them,” said the police. 

The Army said it launched ‘Operation Sohan’ during the intervening night of September 16-17 following “confirmed inputs indicating the presence of terrorists in Brattal, Udhampur”.

“Despite hostile weather, difficult terrain and poor visibility, troops of the Army’s White Knight Corps, J&K Police and CRPF launched a targeted counter-terrorism operation, resulting in the neutralisation of two terrorists,” said the Army.

The bodies of the two terrorists were retrieved later from an area with thick vegetation and hilly terrain. The arrested suspect was being questioned. 

“The operation is still in progress, with search and surveillance operations continuing in the area. Security forces remain deployed to track and neutralise any remaining threat,” the Army said.

In a related development, J&K Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat ordered the attachment of properties belonging to “notorious terrorists currently operating from Pakistan”.

The attached properties include 15 kanals of land and two residential houses of Abdul Majid Qureshi and Parvaiz Ahmad Qureshi, both residents of Kupwara district.

“The properties, presently registered in the name of the terrorists, fall within the ambit of “proceeds of terrorism” in terms of Section 2 (1) (g) (ii) of UAPA and are liable to be attached in FIR No. 276/22 of Police Station Kupwara,” the police said.
