Music lovers are invited to come together in Mahaut on October 3 for a special concert aimed at supporting former members of one of Dominica’s best-known musical groups, Belles Combo.
The Belles Combo Benefit Concert, organized by the Friends of Belles Combo, will take place at Zaman Park in Belfast, Mahaut, beginning at 9:00 PM.
The fundraiser is intended to honor the musicians and roadie who contributed to the group’s more than three decades of performances while raising financial assistance for three former musicians and one roadie, as per a Friends of Belles Combo press release.
Belles Combo played an important role in Dominica’s entertainment scene, bringing its music to communities around the island and helping to build community pride. The group’s history dates back to the 1960s, when it was formed as the Embers to provide entertainment on the local music scene.
The group was led by the versatile Michael “Mike” Moreau and included young men from Mahaut and Massacre. It later became known as Belles Combo and developed a reputation for performing a wide variety of musical styles.
Over the years, the band carried Dominica’s music beyond the island, performing throughout the Caribbean as well as in Canada, the United States, and Colombia. Its members represented Dominica, Creole music and the Mahaut community during those tours.
During its more than 30 years together, Belles Combo released three LPs and several singles, with a number of its recordings continuing to receive airplay in Dominica and particularly in the French West Indies.
The release said that the October 3 event will feature performances from a broad mix of veteran and contemporary acts. The lineup includes the First Serenade Band, featuring Senator, Joey and Gerry Lloyd, White Fayrie, Janet Azouz, Derek Peter, Colton T, the Swinging Stars, Linford John of Bill-O-Men fame, Julien Riviere – the Caribbean Cowboy, Midnight Groovers, the Belles Combo Tribute Band and local DJ DJ Rio.
Proceeds from ticket sales, donations, individual contributions, and other revenue generated by the concert will go toward supporting the beneficiaries. The funds are expected to be presented to them at a special event after the concert.
An account has also been established with the Mahaut/Jimmit/Tarreau Village Council to allow fans in Dominica and members of the diaspora to make additional contributions.
Contributions can be made through MoBanking to NBD Account No. 100035234, using ID No. 5553727. The account will remain open until November 23, 2026.
Tickets are priced at $30 for regular admission and $150 for VIP. They are available from J&M Enterprises on Campbell Road, Convenience Plus, Majic Mart, the Mahaut/Jimmit/Tarreau Village Council in Mahaut, and Bull’s Eye Pharmacy in Goodwill.
Organizers are encouraging music fans from Mahaut and communities across Dominica to attend the concert, celebrate Belles Combo’s contribution to Dominican music, and help support members of the group whose work brought entertainment and cultural pride to generations of listeners.
