The president in charge of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguezplans to travel to New York next week to attend the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations (UN)according to a report published by Bloomberg.
Sources related to the matter revealed to the news agency that Rodríguez’s visit to the United States would represent a significant advance in the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Washington and Caracas.
Delcy Rodríguez’s assistance would put an end to almost a decade of Venezuelan presidential absence at the UN summit. Nicolás Maduro participated in 2018.
The interim president hopes to meet with high-level authorities such as the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, who have left open the possibility of holding a meeting with Rodríguez, if the visit were to take place.
“Probably”was Rubio’s response when recently asked about a possible meeting with Delcy Rodríguez during the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations, which will be held from September 20 to 26 in New York.
