    Tremor today in Colombia | Sixth earthquake of magnitude 3.1 reported in Istmina, Chocó, on the afternoon of this Monday, September 14: details


    The Colombian Geological Service reported four earthquakes in the afternoon of this Monday, September 14, 2026. According to the bulletin issued by the entity in its official X account, the telluric movements They recorded magnitudes of 4.9, 4.4 and 4.1.

    The first three earthquakes They had their epicenter in the municipality of Istminain it department of Chocóand They occurred just two and four minutes apart..

    On social networks, videos began to circulate from the cities where the earthquake was also felt. Apparently, several buildings were evacuated to ensure everyone’s safety and prevent any eventual emergency. People remained in the streets for several minutes.

      Sixth earthquake in Istmina, Chocó

      At around 7:09 pm this Monday, September 14, the SGC reported a new earthquake of magnitude 3.1 in the municipality of Istmina, in Chocó.

      According to the entity, it had a depth of 37 kilometers and was located about 20 kilometers from Sipí.

      Fifth earthquake in Chocó this Monday, September 14

      In a preliminary bulletin from the SGC, it was detailed that this new earthquake on Monday had a magnitude of 4.0 in Chocó and occurred around 5:39 pm However, minutes later the magnitude was adjusted to 4.5 with the epicenter in the municipality of Istmina.

      Colombian Geological Service provided details of four earthquakes

      Freddy Tovar, coordinator of the National Seismological Network of Colombia, explained that the first four earthquakes had magnitudes of 4.9, 4.4 and 4.1.

      With cut-off at 4:30 pm this Monday, the entity assured that “they have received more than 2,000 reports of sense, especially in the departments of Valle del Cauca, Chocó, Risaralda, Antioquia and Tolima.”

      Fourth earthquake of magnitude 4.9 in Chocó

      One hour after the first earthquake that was reported by the entity, another earthquake was confirmed in the municipality of Istmina, in Chocó.

      Although a preliminary magnitude of 4.5 was initially detected, within a few minutes it was adjusted to 4.9.

      In this new official SGC bulletin, it was clarified that it had a depth of 47 kilometers, with a latitude of 4.51 and longitude of -79.77.

      Third earthquake today Monday, September 14

      Four minutes later, that is, around 3:08 pm on September 14, another earthquake shook the municipality of Istmina. The latter, with a magnitude of 4.4 and a depth of 40 kilometers.

      According to the Colombian Geological Service, it was located about 16 kilometers from the municipality of Sipí.

      Second preliminary bulletin on another earthquake

      The second official bulletin of the entity was published just two minutes apart from the first registration. The SGC confirmed a preliminary magnitude of 4.0 which was later adjusted to 4.1.

      In that same sense, it was detailed that it occurred in Chocó at 3:04 pm, with a depth of 41 kilometers, a latitude of 4.52 and longitude of -76.76.

      After the SGC’s publication about the recorded earthquake, users on social networks reported having perceived the movement in different municipalities and cities in the country. According to comments, the tremor was also felt in Pereira, Cali and Manizales.

      In Cali, several people indicated that the earthquake felt “strong”, while in other areas of the country it was “mild.” “Pereira felt it too”, “In the north of Cali it was felt, short but strong”, “In Pereira again”, “It felt strong in Cali on the 8th floor”, are some of the comments that are read in the publication.

      In the department of Chocó, the first seismic event reached a depth of 39 kilometers around 3:02 pm this Monday. In addition, it was located about 17 kilometers from the municipality of Sipí.

      On the official website of the entity, it was also detailed that among the places near the epicenter of the first earthquake are the municipality of Nóvita, in Chocó, about 48 kilometers away, and El Dovio, in Valle del Cauca, 58 kilometers away.

    The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management recommends that families implement an emergency plan that includes:

    • Preparation of an evacuation route.
    • Identification of safe sites.
    • Emergency kit with water, flashlight, radio, non-perishable food and identification documents.

    Furthermore, during the tremor, It is advised to stay calm and protect yourself in structurally safe areas, such as under a desk or near a column, avoiding staying near doorswindows or elements that can be detached.
