The president of National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inameh)Reidy Zambrano, warned that the El Niño phenomenon advances on Venezuela and could reach greater intensity during the last quarter of 2026.
Zambrano explained that El Niño causes rising temperatures and changes in rainfall patternsconditions that can directly affect daily activities, energy consumption and the availability of water resources.
Inameh maintains permanent monitoring of the evolution of the climate event. The objective is anticipate possible scenarios and provide information that allows action to be taken.
The official pointed out that the planet is going through a climate emergency marked by record temperatures and unprecedented ocean warminga situation that he attributed to human activity.
Inameh works in coordination with the ministries for the attention of Water, Electric Energy and Agriculture. Among the actions of these organizations is the evaluation of reservoir levels and establish preventive measures.
These tasks are aimed at safeguarding the food security and the National Electrical System given the possible effects of the climate phenomenon in the coming months.
Zambrano called to strengthen environmental education, use resources efficiently and consult the portals of the competent authorities to stay informed.
