Bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Iran in March of this year, against the backdrop of large-scale bombing of the Islamic Republic by the United States and Israel, decreased by 9.8% compared to the previous month.
According to the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the total volume of Tajik-Iranian trade in March amounted to $40.6 million, which is $4.4 million less than in February.
The decrease was mainly due to a sharp reduction in exports of Tajik products to Iran. Its volume fell almost threefold – from $10.6 million in February to $3.9 million in March.
At the same time, imports of Iranian goods to Tajikistan, on the contrary, increased by 7.9% – from $34 million to $36.7 million.
At the end of the first quarter, Iran’s share in Tajikistan’s foreign trade turnover was about 4.5%.
Overall, trade between Tajikistan and Iran has shown steady growth over the past five years. At the end of last year, trade turnover increased by 28.1% – from $377.7 million in 2024 to approximately $484 million.
Tajikistan’s exports to Iran amounted to about $113 million, while imports of Iranian goods exceeded $371 million. Iran’s share in the republic’s foreign trade turnover reached 4.5%.
The basis of Tajik exports to Iran are raw materials, including cotton fiber, cotton yarn, as well as certain types of ores and metals.
Petrochemical products, construction materials, food products (including vegetables and fruits), as well as polymers, including various types of polyethylene, are mainly imported from Iran to Tajikistan.

In general, Tajikistan’s foreign trade turnover in the first quarter of this year amounted to about $2.7 billion, which is 12.8% more than in January–March 2025.
The republic had foreign trade relations with 112 countries of the world.
The trade balance was negative and amounted to over $1.6 billion.

Exports of goods amounted to almost $514 million, which is 0.7% less than in January–March 2025.

The main partners for the export of goods are:
— China – 39.9% (of total exports of the Republic of Tajikistan);
– Türkiye – 11.6%
– Belgium – 12.7%
— Uzbekistan – 8.5%
— Kazakhstan – 5.8%
Imports of goods into the republic amounted to about $2.2 billion, which is 16.6% more than in the first quarter of the previous year.

Imports were mainly from the following countries:
— Russia – 28.1% (of total imports);
— China – 27.1%;
— Kazakhstan – 15.7%;
— Uzbekistan – 4.7%;
— Iran – 4.4%.
