The Reproductive Education and Adolescent Community Health (REACH) Project has launched a new webinar series addressing issues that matter to young people, while helping parents, caregivers and communities better understand adolescent health and well-being.
Funded by Global Affairs Canada, REACH is a four-year regional initiative working to ensure “no adolescent is left behind” in Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
A press release from the organization shared that the series forms part of REACH’s public education initiative, which aims to increase awareness of adolescent sexual and reproductive health, strengthen parent and community engagement, and promote access to accurate, evidence-based information.
Sessions will explore topics including mental health, nutrition and healthy lifestyles, the teen brain, parent-teen communication and stigma reduction.
Experts will share practical knowledge, evidence-based approaches and strategies to help adolescents make informed decisions and adopt healthy behaviours. Each webinar will also include an interactive question-and-answer segment.
The August schedule begins on Tuesday, August 11, with “Breaking the Stigma Around Mental Health,” presented by licensed psychologist, play therapist, and grief, loss and trauma specialist Maxine Blake-Hylton. On Tuesday, August 18, Danielle Walwyn, Lead of Healthy Caribbean Youth, and counselling psychologist Alaina Gomes will present “Adolescents and Healthy Lifestyles – Nutrition and Mental Health.” On Wednesday, August 20, health educator Shirlan Edward of Saint Lucia’s Ministry of Health, Wellness and Nutrition will lead “Adolescents and Healthy Lifestyles – Healthy Eating.”
All sessions begin at 6:30 PM AST and are free to attend. Interested persons are encouraged to register early. Recordings of previous sessions are available on YouTube and will continue to be added to the playlist.
It is implemented by Alinea International with C-TECH and the OECS Commission.
