Electricity generation in Algeria (expressive)
Algeria ranked fifth in the Arab world on the list of the largest Arab countries generating electricity during the year 2025, with a production of 103.47 terawatt-hours, recording an annual growth of 2.3% compared to 2024, according to the latest data from the Energy Research Unit.
And show Report Saudi Arabia maintained the lead among Arab countries with a total production of 471.42 terawatt-hours, followed by Egypt with 242.42 terawatt-hours, then the UAE with 184.41 terawatt-hours, while Iraq came fourth with 159.43 terawatt-hours, ahead of Algeria, which ranked fifth.
Iraq recorded the highest annual growth rate in electricity production among Arab countries at 10.6%, while Kuwait was the only country that witnessed a decline in production by 2.4%, recording the first decline since 2020.
According to the report, electricity production in Algeria rose to 103.47 terawatt-hours during 2025, compared to 101.4 terawatt-hours in the previous year, continuing its upward trend supported by the increasing demand for electricity and the development of generation capabilities.
Kuwait came in sixth place with a production of 87.07 terawatt-hours, followed by Qatar with 62.53 terawatt-hours, then the Sultanate of Oman with 51.61 terawatt-hours, while Morocco bottomed the list with a production of 45.89 terawatt-hours.
The report indicated that natural gas is still the main source of electricity generation in most Arab countries, coinciding with the acceleration of investments in renewable energy projects, as part of plans aimed at diversifying the energy mix and enhancing security of supplies.
