The Directorate of Religious Affairs and Endowments of the State of Algiers issued an urgent instruction calling for the rationalization of electrical energy consumption in mosques and religious facilities, by regulating the operation of electrical equipment and restricting their use during times of prayers and licensed religious activities, within the framework of preserving public money and rationalizing public expenditures..
In the instruction dated July 16, 2026, the Directorate directed instructions to all religious sector employees charged with running mosques and religious facilities, regardless of their duties and ranks, on the necessity of adhering to a set of measures aimed at rationalizing electricity consumption.
The procedures included limiting the operation of lamps, air conditioners, refrigeration devices, and other electrical equipment to the times of performing prayers and licensed religious activities, while ensuring that all devices are turned off immediately after the end of prayer or immediately after the conclusion of various activities, and not to leave them in operation without need.
The Directorate also stressed the need for rational and prudent use of electrical energy, and avoiding all forms of waste, taking into account the requirements of necessity and good management.
The Directorate of Religious Affairs and Endowments of the Algerian State confirmed that this instruction will enter into force from the date of its issuance, calling on all concerned to strictly adhere to its content and properly implement it.
