Participants in an Arab forum organized in Algiers discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of renewable energies and their environmental applications, especially in the field of the circular economy in Arab countries, with a focus on improving air quality, promoting health awareness, and developing sustainable solutions for treating medical and hazardous waste..
The Algerian News Agency reported that the scientific meeting, which continues over two days, aims to exchange experiences in the field of developing sustainable solutions, encouraging scientific research and innovation, and enhancing cooperation between Arab academic and research institutions, with the participation of representatives of Arab universities, research centers and national bodies, in addition to international research institutions.
This forum is organized at the initiative of the Arab Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ALECSO), in cooperation with the Algerian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the General Directorate of Scientific Research and Technological Development, and the Research Center in Semiconductor Technology.
The Algerian News Agency quoted the Director of the Research Center for Semiconductor Technology, Salim Hassani, as confirming during the opening of the works that the Arab region faces increasing environmental and health challenges, noting that Algeria possesses pioneering qualifications and experience in the field of renewable energies, in addition to competencies and research balance in the fields of environmental monitoring, waste management and health vigilance, which qualifies it to contribute to supporting Arab scientific cooperation.
For his part, Director of the Science and Scientific Research Department at ALECSO, Mohamed Sanad Abu Darwish, highlighted the position that Algeria occupies in the field of scientific research and technological application, especially in the field of renewable energies, praising the inclusion of the Research Center in Semiconductor Technology in the ALECSO list of distinguished Arab reference centers for the 2025-2026 cycle.
Abu Darwish explained that this classification reflects the quality of research completed at the center and the role it plays in serving scientific research at the Arab level.
In turn, the Director General of Scientific Research and Technological Development, Muhammad Buhaisha, emphasized the importance of the forum’s topic, stressing the directorate’s role in promoting applied research and innovation, and strengthening the partnership between universities, research centers and the economic sector.
The Secretary-General of the Algerian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, Jalloul Ben Inaya, also considered that the classification of the research center in semiconductor technology among the ALECSO reference centers reflects the progress achieved by Algeria in the field of scientific research, highlighting the role of the committee in enhancing cooperation with international and regional organizations, such as UNESCO, ALECSO and ISESCO, and supporting national capacity building and accompanying the implementation of public policies in the fields of education, science and culture.
It is expected that the forum will conclude with the adoption of a set of recommendations aimed at strengthening Arab cooperation in the fields of scientific research and innovation, developing the use of renewable energies, and promoting sustainable treatment of medical and hazardous waste, in a way that supports efforts to achieve sustainable development in Arab countries.
