In Ilulissat Icefjord, at Imilik, the terrain burns in two areas. Firefighters have gone to the scene with their equipment.
In Ilulissat Kangerlua, Ilulissat Icefjord, there is now a fire in the terrain. This is confirmed by the emergency manager in Avannaata Kommunia, Isak Pjettursson, to Sermitsiaq.
The firefighters photographed the burning area from above with a drone. The images show that there is a wildfire in two areas close to each other. According to the pictures, part of the fire is located near fallen stones.
– The fire has not yet spread. It is not large, but it needs to be turned off and cooled down, assesses emergency manager Isak Pjettursson based on the pictures he has seen.
About ten firefighters are now on their way to the scene on foot. They have fire extinguishers with them. The information from the firefighters on their way to the fire scene is still limited for the emergency manager. Therefore, the emergency manager does not yet have any additional information beyond what has already been announced.
Avannaata Kommunia also encourages people not to walk in the area of the fire for the time being.
