An expert at the National Bureau of Meteorology revealed the expected date for the drop in temperatures, after an exceptional heat wave that affected a large number of states.
Weather specialist Boualem Sayeh explained in a statement to the Algerian News Agency that the heat wave will continue during the next few days, before temperatures begin to gradually decrease starting July 26.
He attributed the continuation of the record high temperatures to the effect of an air high, or what is known as the “heat dome,” which currently dominates the northern states and the oasis region, which led to unusually high temperatures being recorded during this period of the year.
He added that the expected improvement in weather conditions will be the result of a decrease in atmospheric pressure in the upper layers of the atmosphere, which will allow the formation of northwesterly air currents that will work to reduce temperatures and gradually return them to their seasonal and monthly levels.
The same speaker confirmed that the current heat wave is one of the most prominent waves that Algeria has witnessed in recent years, not only because of the high temperatures, but also because of the expansion of its geographical area and its continuation for several consecutive days, as it included most of the states in the north of the country.
He pointed out that during the years 2021, 2022 and 2023, Algeria recorded record temperatures in some northern states, but the current wave is characterized by its long duration and wide scope, which made it exceptional compared to previous years.
The expert concluded by stressing that the expected drop in temperatures will be gradual, with the atmosphere returning to its usual seasonal levels starting in the last week of July.
