The Polish Football Association received with deep sadness and profound grief the news of the death of Jacek Magiera, assistant coach of the Poland national team. “The Polish Football Association extends its sincerest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Jacek Magiera. We also kindly ask that their privacy and peace be respected during this very difficult time,” the statement on pzpn.pl read.
Earlier, Radio Wrocław reported that Jacek Magiera died this morning after collapsing during a running training session. He was transported to the Military Clinical Hospital in Wrocław, but his life could not be saved. Since July 2025, Magiera had been serving as assistant coach of the Poland national team in the staff of Jan Urban.
Born in Częstochowa, Magiera began his football career in the mid-1990s at local club Raków Częstochowa. He was associated for many years with Legia Warsaw. After leaving the club, he tried his hand at Cracovia, but ended his playing career after the autumn round of the 2006/2007 season. In Poland’s top division, he played over 230 matches and scored 25 goals. He was a two-time Polish champion with Legia.
He also made dozens of appearances for Poland’s youth national teams.
He played as a midfielder.
From 2006, he devoted himself to a coaching career. He initially became an assistant coach at Legia Warsaw until 2013. He then managed Legia II and Zagłębie Sosnowiec, and in 2016-2017 he was head coach of Legia’s first team, winning the Polish championship in the 2016/2017 season.
Between 2018 and 2021, he was head coach of the Poland U-20 and U-19 national teams, leading the U-20 side at the FIFA World Cup. From 2021 to 2024, with a one-year break, he managed Śląsk Wrocław, finishing as runners-up in the Polish league in the 2023/2024 season.
