Five more officers attached to the San Fernando Municipal Police Station have been placed on administrative leave as investigations intensify into the murder of their colleague acting corporal Anuska Eversley and the theft of multiple firearms and rounds of ammunition from the facility on Sunday.
A senior officer told the Express that Superintendent of the San Fernando Municipal Police Station Dustan Renn and the four constables on duty on the shift with Eversley were sent on immediate leave. Additionally, the contract of Senior Superintendent of the San Fernando Municipal Police Station, Cecil Santana, has not been renewed.
The Express was told that Santana’s contract expired on April 5, and he was given verbal assurance that the contract would be renewed; however, after the incident, he was told otherwise.
On Tuesday, Municipal Assistant Commissioner of Police Surrendra Sagramsingh was sent on immediate administrative paid leave via a letter dated April 21, 2026, by the acting permanent secretary at the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government.
The letter made it clear that Sagramsingh’s leave was to preserve the integrity of the police investigation and a precautionary measure, and did not constitute any misconduct or liability on his part.
The security breach at the police station has raised serious concerns about internal security and the potential risk to public safety.
The Express was told the officers sent on leave are not necessarily suspects in the case, but may have had access to, or responsibility for, areas now central to the investigation.
The developments come amid mounting pressure on the service to account for how such a breach could have occurred, particularly involving weapons that could be used in further criminal activity.
According to sources, Eversley was on duty last Saturday night and had told the two other officers who were also working that she would handle securing the charge room downstairs and that they could go upstairs to sleep.
Two other officers were at a sub-office on Penitence Street in San Fernando.
According to sources, a silver-coloured vehicle was parked outside the station and, after Eversley was murdered, the suspect signalled to two men in the vehicle to enter the station. They did so and carted out the guns and ammunition.
The Express was told that a prime suspect is a drug addict and is said to be the mastermind of the robbery.
Sources said police have intelligence as to where some stolen guns and ammunition are hidden, and people who are aiding and abetting these criminal activities will also be apprehended.
