The Delia tunnel boring machine completed 100% tunnel drilling Line 2 of the Lima and Callao Metro upon arriving at the Insurgentes Station (E-04), in Callao, thus completing the excavation of the 27 kilometers of the track for the first underground metro in Peru.
Since the beginning of his work in the San Juan de Dios station (E-19), “Delia” excavated a total of 14.3 kilometers tunnel. During its journey it crossed the stations Circunvalación, Nicolás Ayllón, 28 de Julio, Cangallo, Manco Cápac, Estación Central, Plaza Bolognesi, Parque Murillo, Tingo María, La Alborada, Elio, San Marcos, Óscar R. BenavidesCarmen de la Legua and Insurgentes.

To complete this section, the tunnel boring machine placed 8,412 structural rings, made up of 58,884 concrete segments installed with millimeter precision. Each ring, weighing nearly 40 tons, ensured the stability of the tunnel, while “Delia” advanced at an average of 15 meters per day.
The excavation of the 27 kilometers of the Line 2 tunnel was carried out using the traditional NATM method and the use of the “Delia” and “Micaela” tunnel boring machines.
It should be noted that the Line 2 of the Lima and Callao Metro will unite the districts of Ate, Santa Anita, El Agustino, San Luis, La Victoria, Cercado de LimaBreña, Bellavista, Carmen de la Legua and Callao in just 45 minutes.
The vehicular enclosures at the Manco Cápac, Cangallo, Plaza Bolognesi, Óscar R. Benavides and Carmen de la Legua stations were 100% removed. Likewise, the partial withdrawal of restrictions in the stations was ordered. San Juan de Dios, Nicolás Ayllón, Puerto Callao, Buenos Aires, Juan Pablo and Insurgentes.
In addition, circulation was restored on Guardia Chalaca Avenue and access to the Vía Expresa from the Paseo de los Héroes Navales, which contributed to improving vehicle flow in the area.
In stage 1A, which connects the Evitamiento and Santa Anita stationsare carried out daily around 60,000 free trips. Since the start of operations, in December 2023, more than 41 million have been registered.
