Shaheed El Hafed, June 29, 2026 (SPS) – The National Council has reaffirmed its full solidarity with the Sahrawi civilian prisoners held in Moroccan prisons, expressing its unwavering support for their steadfastness and resilience in defending the Sahrawi people’s right to freedom and independence.
The statement was issued on the occasion of the conclusion of the Council’s 2026 Spring Session.
In a solidarity statement, the National Council affirmed that Sahrawi civilian prisoners have endured years of harsh detention conditions and restrictive measures, while continuing to demand their legitimate rights. It noted that the Moroccan occupation authorities have intensified retaliatory measures against them, including solitary confinement and the denial of fundamental rights, in response to their peaceful struggle.
Against the backdrop of what the statement described as an escalation by the Moroccan occupation and its continued violations of public freedoms, the National Council reiterated its full and unconditional solidarity with all Sahrawi civilian prisoners and their families, paying tribute to their patience, steadfastness, and sacrifices.
The Council renewed its call for the immediate and unconditional release of all Sahrawi civilian prisoners. It also urged the United Nations, international bodies, and human rights organizations to fulfill their legal and humanitarian responsibilities by taking action to protect the prisoners and put an end to the violations they continue to endure.
The statement further called for strengthening national and international solidarity with the cause of the prisoners and for continuing peaceful efforts to secure their freedom. It stressed that the issue of Sahrawi political prisoners will remain a national priority and an integral part of the struggle for freedom and dignity.
