In a message addressed to the players, technical staff and managers of the country’s football, Hojjatul Islam and Muslims Seyyed Hassan Khomeini appreciated their efforts in the 2026 World Cup and said: I am grateful to the players of our country for their diligent efforts in the games, despite the unequal conditions caused by the disturbances of the Americans, the lack of preparation games and some opposition to the team’s participation in the World Cup.
He further considered the participation of the Iranian national football team in the World Cup as a factor for strengthening national unity and added: the courage of the sports officials to participate in the World Cup brought greater community unity and neutralized the plots of the enemies, and it was a valuable move.
Referring to the objections to the national team’s presence in the World Cup, Yadgar Imam stated that despite these atmospheres, the sports officials decided to allow the team to participate and this action brought positive effects for the country.
He also thanked Mehdi Taj, the president of the football federation and Amir Qalanewi, the head coach of the national team, and said: I am very grateful for the efforts of my dear brothers Mr. Mehdi Taj and Amir Qalanewi.
Hojjat-ul-Islam Wal-Muslimeen Khomeini considered the “unbeaten presence” of the national team, the “understanding of the national team head coach” in the management of the team and the “competent management of the officials of the federation, especially the president of the federation” among the bright points of the country’s football team’s performance in the 2026 World Cup.
He stated that the Iranian national football team, despite the merits and acknowledgments of many experts, deserved to advance to the higher stages of the World Cup. He said: This team failed to continue on its way only because of low popularity, but this issue does not reduce the value of its performance and the Iranian national football team displayed one of its best games during the World Cup.
Yadgar Imam expressed his hope that the national team will maintain its preparation for the Asian Games with serious training, so that it can witness more success in those competitions.
