The Olympic Council of Asia announced the closing of nominations for the position of President of the Council for the electoral period 2027-2035, by announcing the candidacy of His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia and President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, as the sole candidate for the position, after the end of the official deadline for receiving nomination applications. The Council explained on its official website that it had received nominations in support of His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani from 27 member National Olympic Committees, in a step that reflects the amount of support and confidence he enjoys at the level of Olympic committees on the Asian continent.
The Council confirmed that it had not received any other candidacy request for the position of President, making His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad the only candidate to lead the Olympic Council of Asia during the period from 2027 to 2035.
The next general meeting of the Olympic Council of Asia is scheduled to be held in Doha, Qatar, on January 27, 2027.
On the other hand, His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, met yesterday with His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Abdul Rahman Nasser Al-Shuraim, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the State of Qatar, and His Excellency Mr. Shane Flanagan, Ambassador of Australia to the State of Qatar, separately. During the two meetings, aspects of cooperation between the State of Qatar, the State of Kuwait and Australia were reviewed, and ways to enhance partnership in the sports and Olympic fields, in addition to discussing a number of topics of common interest.
