KUCHING (June 28): A Sarawakian academic is now on the managing council committee of the Asian South Pacific Association of Sport Psychology (ASPASP) for the 2026-2030 term.
Dr Chin Ngien Siong from the Physical Education (PE) Department at the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Batu Lintang Campus here was elected during the general assembly held in Bangkok, Thailand, held in conjunction with the 10th ASPASP International Congress, which concluded last Sunday (June 28).
With his election, Dr Chin joins an international panel of scholars representing Malaysia, Taiwan, China, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Japan, Thailand and India.
At the Bangkok event, Dr Chin also served as a symposium speaker and chaired both the symposium and oral sessions.
One of the highlights of the event was a workshop on ‘Psychological Impact of Facilities Management on Athletes’ Performance’, jointly conducted by Dr Chin, Assoc-Prof Dr Garry Kuan of Universiti Sains Malaysia, who is also ASPASP vice-president, and Ting Pei Siang from the PE Department of IPG Batu Lintang.
It is informed that the 11th ASPASP Congress in 2030 will be hosted by the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the association.
Sarawak hosted the congress here in 2022.
