- Four people were injured – the trapped car driver (69) seriously – and were flown by Rega to the Chur Cantonal Hospital.
There was an accident in Laax on Saturday afternoon involving three vehicles. As the Kapo Graubünden writes, a 69-year-old driver and a female passenger were driving in his car at 2:50 p.m. on the main road H19 from Laax towards Ilanz. After entering Sagogn, his vehicle ended up in the opposite lane at the end of a left-hand bend. At the same time, a Lithuanian car was driving towards Flims.
As a result, the passenger car traveling downhill crashed violently into the front left side of the touring car, which was traveling without passengers. The crash pushed the bus against the unprotected slope, which forced the car driver to maneuver onto the oncoming lane leading down the valley.
There was another serious collision with another passenger car. Ultimately, before the coach came to a standstill on the mountain-side lane, there was a third collision with the rising embankment and a wall.
While the car chauffeur and the driver of the second passenger car involved were only slightly injured, the passenger of the first passenger car involved was moderately injured and his trapped driver, who had to be rescued from the vehicle, was seriously injured.
The injured were given first aid by teams from the Surselva rescue service and the Mittelbünden rescue service and transferred to hospitals in ambulances. The seriously injured driver of the car, however, had to be flown by Rega to the Chur Cantonal Hospital.
Due to the extent of the traffic accident, the Oberalpstrasse had to be completely closed for around four and a half hours to provide medical care for the injured, the investigation, the recovery of the significantly damaged vehicles and the road cleaning.
