Slovenia continues to be gripped by a pronounced heat wave, which at the beginning of the week brought a new June temperature record. The Slovenian Environment Agency (Arso) measured 38.7 degrees Celsius in Podnanos, which is the highest June temperature in the history of Slovenia. Despite this, meteorologists warn that Wednesday will bring the most weather events, when storms will begin to develop in the afternoon and will spread over most of the country from the north towards the evening.
The heat will persist until Wednesday, so Arsa for south-western, central and south-eastern Slovenia maintains a red alert due to high heat load. This will be most pronounced in Primorska, south-eastern Slovenia and in larger cities.
Tuesday will be mostly sunny, a weak gale will blow in Primorska. Afternoon temperatures will reach from 30 to 35 degrees Celsius, and in Primorska up to around 37 degrees. Despite the mostly sunny weather, a single heat storm is not excluded, especially in the Alps area.
The worst predictions will not come true
It will still be quite clear and hot in the middle of the morning. In the afternoon, however, the atmosphere will gradually destabilize, which is why individual local showers and storms will begin to form, but they will be of a shorter and transitory nature. Severe storms are thus not expected.
Stormy events will initially be more frequent in the Alpine world, but from around five o’clock in the afternoon and towards evening, they will spread from the north over most of Slovenia. On Thursday night, showers and storms will also cover most of the neighboring regions.
Daytime highs will still be between 29 and 36 degrees Celsius despite the approach of a weather front, so it will be very steamy before the storms arrive.
Significant refreshment on Thursday
The passing of the storms will also bring an end to the most pronounced heat wave. On Thursday, it will gradually clear from the north, a weak gale will blow in Primorska, and temperatures will be significantly lower than in the past few days.
On Friday, mostly sunny weather is expected, but in the afternoon, mainly in the interior of the country, isolated showers are still possible.
