Washington, United States.
United States and Iran agreed to stop the bombings of recent days and meet this week in Tasteas reported this Sunday by the American portal Axios.
The alleged pause in the bombing comes two days after both countries accused each other of having violated the ceasefire agreement signed on June 17.
On Saturday afternoon, the president of the United States, donald trumpraised the tone of its threats and warned that Washington could intensify its military offensive if Tehran continues its attacks, to the point that the Islamic Republic “would cease to exist.”
According to Axios, in addition to a pause in attacks, both countries agreed that ships will be able to continue transiting “freely” through the Strait of Hormuz while talks continue.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on the eve of a new series of attacks against multiple military targets in Iran, in response to a drone attack attributed to Tehran against the Panamanian-flagged oil tanker M/T Kiku, while it was sailing through the strait in question.
This second US attack occurred after Iran accused Washington of violating the memorandum of understanding signed between both countries and justified its subsequent response against US targets as an act of “legitimate defense.”
On Friday, Trump had already accused Iran of committing a “senseless” violation of the ceasefire by launching “at least four one-way attack drones against ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.”
These were the first attacks exchanged by both sides since the United States and Iran signed, on June 17, a memorandum of understanding to end hostilities and guarantee free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz while negotiating a definitive agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.
