Robert Lewandowski lost his position as the number one striker in Barcelona.
The 37-year-old forward helped the Catalan club win three league titles, the same number of Spanish Super Cups and one Spanish Cup in four years.
“After four years full of challenges and hard work, it’s time to move on. I’m leaving with the feeling that the mission is accomplished. Four seasons, three championships. Barcelona is back where it belongs,” Lewandowski was quoted as saying by AFP.
He played for Barcelona in 191 competitive matches, in which he scored 119 goals.
Several clubs from Europe were interested in the services of the representative of Poland. There was also talk of interest from Saudi Arabia or the US.
According to the renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, the country in which the World Cup is currently being held is to become the new destination of the star Pole.
He was supposed to agree with the MLS club Chicago Fire, while the official announcement should take place in the next few days.
In the American competition, Lewandowski would also meet another former star of Barcelona – Lionel Messi.
