An Icelandic Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched shortly before 4 pm today following a serious traffic accident in Reykholt, Borgarfjörður.
The helicopter was sent out with the highest priority and transported three injured individuals to Landspítali National Hospital in Fossvogur, according to Ásgeir Erlendsson, spokesperson for the Icelandic Coast Guard.
Two people had to be cut from the vehicle
Ásmundur Kristinn Ásmundsson, chief superintendent with the West Iceland Police, told mbl.is that the accident involved a serious collision between two vehicles and required a significant emergency response.
He added that two people had to be extricated from one of the vehicles using rescue equipment.
