US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, along with Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors, announced the signing of a framework agreement, described as the first step toward peace after months of conflict between the Iranian-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah and Israel. He informs about it “Armenpress”citing Euronews.
Officials have not yet disclosed the details of the agreement, which was signed by Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Echiel Leiter, and Lebanon’s Ambassador to the United States, Nada Hamadeh.
Hamadeh noted that the framework agreement is the first step towards the restoration of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the permanent and final cessation of hostilities, and the return of the Lebanese people to their lands.
Leiter, in turn, noted that the ultimate goal of the framework agreement is peace between the two countries.
“True peace, where both countries live in security, and the sovereignty of Israel and Lebanon is respected, preserved and protected. Thanks to this tripartite framework agreement, which is based on concrete results, the path to peace between Israel and Lebanon is open,” Leiter said.
