The guests, ranging from tourists from outside and guests from Greenland, flock to the hotel group Hotel Hans Egede A/S accommodation, meeting rooms and conference facilities in Nuuk.
The company and the hotel empire in Greenland’s capital delivered a record profit of DKK 39 million after tax last year.
– It is the biggest profit in the company’s history, says hotel king Helge Tang, who is acting chairman of the board.
In Hotel Hans Egede’s annual report for 2025, the management describes the result as extremely satisfactory and far above expectations. In 2024, the profit was DKK 15 million.
Last year there was a gross profit of DKK 89 million against DKK 51 million the year before.
The information appears in the CVR register.
The company’s main activities are to operate the Nuuk hotels Hotel Hans Egede and HHE Express.
Equity of DKK 64 million
Hotel Hans Egede A/S, which is the country’s largest hotel company, had an equity capital of DKK 64 million at the end of 2025, and on average 73 employees were employed in the company in 2025.
Hotel Hans Egede A/S is owned by the successful hotel king and property investor Helge Tang and his son Christian Loiborg Tang.
The risk sits on all the A shares and the controlling influence in the group. The son owns all B shares, but in reality he has no influence.
– I am the owner of the company. And I am very satisfied with the 2025 result, says Helge Tang.
The 77-year-old hotel king says he has many good years left as an active businessman.
If you take a walk through Nuuk, you might meet Helge Tang trotting out there.
Every day he goes for a nice long walk through Nuuk to keep his physique and health in order, and he has been doing that for many years.
– I am still-going-strong as working chairman of the board. And then I have a skilled managing director and hotel manager by my side, he adds.
The hotel manager is Jørgen Bay-Kastrup, who has been involved in the game in Hotel Hans Egede A/S since 2014. In other words, they should all go, according to Helge Tang.
Marked focus on Greenland
– The new international airport, the associated new international flight routes and not least the geopolitical situation that arose after the change of president in the USA meant a significantly increased focus on Greenland and therefore many new guests with very different purposes, the management writes in the annual report for the 2025 accounts.
Helge Tang says that tourists flock to the hotel group in Nuuk during the spring and summer season. In addition, it is busy due to local guests who, among other things, holds meetings.
– With Trump’s statements about Greenland, there is almost no one in the entire world who has not heard of Greenland. After the New Year, this year we had an invasion of journalists and photographers from all over the world.
– The rooms have been fully occupied in the summer of 2025, and they will be this year as well, says Helge Tang.

Also expect a solid profit this year
In the annual report for 2024 for Hotel Hans Egede A/S, an expected 2025 result before tax of DKK 24-28 million was announced.
The company, which, as mentioned, operates two Nuuk hotels, Hotel Hans Egede and HHE Express, rents the hotels from Polarbo ApS. Polarbo is owned by Helge Tang and Bolette Juhl.
In addition, Hotel Hans Egede A/S has leased the property Samuel Kleinschmidtvej 15 in Nuuk from HC Ejendomme, Nuuk A/S. Furnished hotel apartments and vacant homes are rented here under the name Nuuk Hotel Apartments by HHE. HC Ejendomme is also owned by Helge Tang and Bolette Juhl.
Greenland’s largest hotel
Hotel Hans Egede is Greenland’s largest hotel with 156 hotel rooms, two restaurants and a conference centre.
The hotel is four-star, while the conference department, which is commercially referred to as HHE Conference & Events, is five-star. The three-star budget hotel, HHE Express, has 108 rooms.
Christian Loiborg Tang became a co-owner in 2024 and was promoted to the position of Helge Tang’s heir to the hotel empire. Helge Tang passed the baton on to his son and appointed him deputy director of the company.
But at the end of 2025, Christian Loiborg Tang left the job as deputy director and has been sales manager at Tusass since 1 February this year.
Also expecting a high result this year
Hotel Hans Egede A/S expectations for 2026 are a gross profit of between DKK 85 million and DKK 90 million and an ordinary result after tax of between DKK 35 million and DKK 40 million.
The expectations are based on assumptions that the level of activity in 2026 will continue at the same high level as in 2025 and the first months of 2026.
– However, we must add that with the geopolitical uncertainty in which the world currently finds itself and which, among other things, results in higher prices for e.g. jet fuel, can change our business at short notice, the management writes in the annual report for 2025.
Helge Tang is currently on summer vacation in Denmark. He has long struggled with plans to build a new hotel at Nuuk’s International Airport.
But the hotel project has not yet come off the ramp.
– I’ll leave that until I get home from summer vacation. Sometime in the autumn we will have to see if the plans are implemented, says Helge Tang.
The hotel king will not say more about that matter. He is waiting to start the plans, apparently due to, among other things, the geopolitical uncertainty the world and thus Greenland is in.
