British luxury car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is initiating a comprehensive recall operation due to a defect detected in its in-car security systems. A technical problem in the airbag system on the driver’s side was investigated on the grounds that it could prevent the system from working properly in the event of a possible accident.
NHTSA SHARED DETAILS OF THE RECALL
According to the official statement of the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall decision covers Land Rover Defender, Discovery and Range Rover models of certain model years. In the official announcement, it was reported that the total number of vehicles subject to recall was 250 thousand 857.
REASON FOR THE FAILURE
In the technical statements made by the authorities, it was stated that corrosion (rusting) may occur over time in the clockspring (spiral cable) connection within the driver airbag mechanism.
It was stated that this possible corrosion may prevent the airbag from deploying properly in the event of a possible accident and, accordingly, increase the risk of injury to the driver.
FREE REPAIRS WILL BE MADE AT AUTHORIZED SERVICES.
To resolve the issue, Jaguar Land Rover will implement a repair program for affected vehicle owners.
Within the scope of the campaign, authorized services will apply protective lubricant gel to the relevant connection terminals free of charge in order to prevent corrosion and make the connection secure. It was learned that vehicle owners will be informed and service appointments will be organized.
