Nineteen-year-old Sait Saitov from Skopje, who was wanted with an international warrant issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs on January 12, was extradited from Serbia to our country today, the Ministry of Internal Affairs informs. The Ministry of the Interior announced that Saitov was remanded in custody and handed over to the “Skopje” prison for further proceedings.
Saitov is suspected of committing crimes “against the safety of people and property in traffic” and “failure to render aid to a person injured in a traffic accident” after he killed a woman in Kapistec with a car on January 9, 2026.
After the warrant issued by the Ministry of the Interior, in February he was detained in Belgrade, after which there was a procedure between the ministries of justice of the two countries for his extradition to Macedonia and appropriate sanctions.
On January 9, Saitov ran over a woman in Kapishtec with a Volkswagen Passat, fled the scene and left the country. On January 10, a public prosecutor from the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Skopje issued an order to conduct an investigative procedure against the then 18-year-old Saitov, and two more people (a man and a woman) were suspected of having helped him after committing the crime.
As the Prosecutor’s Office informed at the time, with a Mercedes car with Skopje license plates, the husband and wife came to the home of the suspect immediately after the traffic accident, took him together with his father and transferred them to Serbia through the Tabanovce border crossing. They left them there, after which the helpers returned to the country around midnight.
– Sait Saitov drove the car without having a valid driver’s license. The vehicle hit Ljuba Jakovleska, who was crossing the road as a pedestrian. As a result of the impact and the fall on the road, the woman suffered serious injuries, and the suspect immediately left the scene without giving her help. The victim was transferred to the Emergency Center where, despite the medical assistance provided, he died. The other two suspects, a man and a woman, helped Saitov to leave the country, transporting him in their car through the Tabanovce border crossing. They are deprived of liberty after returning to the country, and for them the public prosecutor submitted to the judge of the preliminary procedure of the Basic Criminal Court Skopje a proposal for the determination of a measure of detention. A detention measure has also been requested for the suspected driver who is on the run and his detention will begin after his finding and deprivation of liberty – the Ministry of the Interior and the Prosecutor’s Office announced in January, reports MIA.
