The end of the school year, the beginning of summer and the arrival of the summer holidays also mark the end of another successful theater season at the City Puppet Theater Split. The theatre, headed by the director Lucian Rokithe 2025/2026 season, during which the theater has had numerous performances, guest appearances and meetings with the audience, will conclude with the premiere of the play “Sadako hoje jiviživi”, based on the novel of the same name Karl Brucknerand by holding the 13th Summer Theater for Children, a traditional program that has brought theater content for the youngest audience and their families for years at the beginning of summer.
Based on a true story
The premiere of the play “Sadako wants to live” is scheduled for June 25, and he signs the direction Stipe Gugićmember of the acting ensemble of the City Puppet Theater Split. The play is inspired by the true story of a Japanese girl Sadako Sasaki and through her fate speaks about the strength of the human spirit, hope and faith in life. Although it deals with a difficult subject, it brings a universal message about courage, peace and humanity.
After the premiere, from June 29 to July 4, the 13th Summer Theater for Children will take place. During the six festival evenings, the audience will be able to watch plays intended for different ages – from the youngest viewers to school children.
Humor and imaginative stories
In addition to the new play “Sadako wants to live”, the program also includes “Ivo and Jakov – from Split’s ghetto to the stage of the world”, created in co-production with the Croatian House of Split, as well as the plays “Sleeping Sun”, “One-legged Goga”, “My mother asks if you have one egg” and “Say AAA… – Little lion and big fear”. Through music, humor and imaginative stories, the plays deal with the themes of friendship, family, growing up and facing fears.
This year’s Summer Theater for Children will round off the season of the City Puppet Theater Split, marked by numerous performances, guest appearances and meetings with the audience.
