The 21st day of protests in Albania is reported to have also mobilized the diaspora.
As written by the media in Albania, including “Euronews”, Saturday’s protest also gathered emigrants from England, France, Germany and Austria.
“Rama in prison, Berisha in prison” is the main call of the protests. This time it has been warned that the rallies will continue past midnight.
The protests in Tirana started after objections to tourism development projects in the protected areas of Sazan and Zvërnec, but over the days they have expanded to broader demands for transparency, institutional accountability and opposition to the policies of Prime Minister Edi Rama’s government.
The project in Zvrnec has been publicly linked to Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump.
And just today, Rama has stated that the protests against the tourist project in Zvrnec are being influenced by international actors and “digital mercenaries”, mentioning also participants from Kosovo and North Macedonia. He has said that the objections are more related to the name of Jared Kushner and Donald Trump than to environmental concerns.
