While people across Cambodia are celebrating the traditional Khmer New Year—young and old alike—Cambodian workers, community members, and students in several countries around the world have also gathered to mark the festival, demonstrating strong unity and a commitment to preserving Khmer culture, traditions, and national identity even while living overseas.
According to a post on the official social media page of Senate President Hun Sen, Cambodian workers, communities, and students in Japan organised Khmer New Year celebrations at 13 locations, attracting more than 8,000 participants and creating a joyful, festive atmosphere.
The celebrations were organised through cooperation between Cambodian workers, community organisations, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, the Embassy of Cambodia in Japan, and the East and Southeast Asia Youth Working Group (ESEA).
These events were held in several areas, including Ibaraki Prefecture, Fukuoka Prefecture, and Ueno Park in Tokyo.

The Khmer New Year celebrations organised by Cambodian workers, communities, and students in Japan served as an important platform to highlight the unity of the Cambodian people, preserve cultural traditions, and showcase Cambodia’s rich national identity on the international stage.
Meanwhile, in South Korea, around 20,000 Cambodian workers and community members celebrated the Khmer New Year at 12 locations, showcasing Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage.
The celebrations were organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, the Embassy of Cambodia in South Korea, and the ESEA youth working group. Activities included religious ceremonies, traditional Khmer games, dancing, and communal meals, all of which strengthened solidarity among Cambodians living abroad.
Similarly, Cambodian workers, community members, and students living in Malaysia also celebrated the Khmer New Year in a joyful and vibrant atmosphere. The celebrations were organised at two locations through cooperation between the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, the Embassy of Cambodia in Malaysia, and the ESEA youth working group.
These gatherings offered a meaningful opportunity for Cambodians living overseas to strengthen unity, preserve their cultural traditions, and proudly showcase Cambodia’s national identity on the global stage, regardless of their location.
