Damascus, June 23 (SANA) Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani received a Mauritanian delegation headed by Mauritanian Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug at Tishreen Palace in Damascus on Tuesday for talks on bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting is expected to focus on prospects for expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest and strengthening coordination between Syria and Mauritania on regional and international issues.
Relations between Syria and Mauritania have continued to develop in recent years. Mauritania appointed a new ambassador to Syria in August 2025, and Ambassador Taleb Al-Mukhtar Mohamed Al-Mujtaba presented his credentials to President Ahmad al-Sharaa in September 2025.
The visit reflects the two countries’ interest in strengthening diplomatic ties and broadening cooperation across a range of sectors.
The talks come as part of Syria’s efforts to enhance its cooperation with Arab countries and international partners.
