With two goals from Kylian Mbappé and one of Ousmane Dembelethe France national team won 3-0 Iraq in the Group I match of the World Cup 2026which was suspended for more than an hour due to a thunderstorm in Philadelphia (United States).
Just at the end of the first half, the stadium’s public address system instructed fans to “leave the outdoor seating area and seek shelter inside the venue.” Due to security protocols, once the warning is activated, the game must be paused for at least 30 minutes.

This is the first match that has had to be suspended in this World Cup because of the weather, an issue that has been of great concern because much of the United States is prone to thunderstorms at this time of year.
The United States Weather Service (NWS) had activated a tornado warning for the Philadelphia area shortly before the suspension.
