US Secretary of State Marco Rubio started his trip to the Middle East, making the first stop in the United Arab Emirates. “Armenpress”as reported by Reuters agency.
After landing in Abu Dhabi, Rubio was asked about allies’ concerns about the Iran deal.
“It will most likely be addressed in the discussions,” Rubio said, adding that issues not included in the memorandum of understanding will also be discussed.
The media reminds that some US allies in the Persian Gulf consider the agreement signed by President Donald Trump with Tehran, which also includes access to a $300 billion fund for Iran’s reconstruction, as a very big concession. The countries are worried that Iran can use the money to rebuild its military power. In addition, the agreement does not address the issue of Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities, which, according to the agency, is a cause for concern for the Persian Gulf countries.
In turn, the BBC reports that Marco Rubio announced the inadmissibility of levying tolls in the Strait of Hormuz.
“It is an international waterway. No country is allowed to levy tolls or fees on an international waterway. That is the current international law. I think we don’t have to convince anyone in this matter. I think all the countries of the region will agree with us,” he said upon his arrival in the UAE.
After UAE, Rubio will visit Kuwait and Bahrain.
